Athlone, a town situated on the banks of the River Shannon, literally in the middle of Ireland is about to get a new brewery. It's first brewery in many many years. Dead Centre Brewing, quite a clever name, and nice clean branding too.

We got to sit down with Liam Tutty, founder of Dead Centre brewing, to discuss his plans for opening a brewery in Athlone, his background and of course get a taste of their new Session Pale Ale, </Sourcecode> which was launched in The Malt House that evening.

After our interview, we got to see the plans of the new brewery, and to say it's ambitious would be an understatement, but it could very well be a template for similar across Ireland in similar sized towns.

It's clear Liam believes strongly in local business, and supporting local as much as possible. We look forward to following his progress over the coming weeks and months. Give them a follow on twitter here , instagram , and their website here

Nov 4, 2016

It's a happy coincidence that most folk in the Irish micro brewing industry are of the sound sort. Many are happy to chat away, and talk about their love of all things beer.

We're delighted to have been able to sit down with Alex Lawes, the Head Brewer of Rye River Brewing, brewers of The McGargles range. Not only has Alex overseen the stabilisation of the recipes of the McGargles beers, he's also delivered the coup de grace of Francis Big Bangin IPA, which has quite frankly, made a number of people eat their words.

He's also overseeing a range of brands for Dunne's Stores (Grafters) and Lidl (The Crafty Brewing Co) and these beers have been punching well above their weight, none so much as the Pale Wheat Ale which I wrote about here

In this interview we cover a wide range of subjects but most importantly, an exclusive reveal of the next Whiplash Beer. After Alex teased us all with this a couple of weeks ago.

We hope you enjoy the interview, and keep an eye out from Next Week when this new beer drops, we had it out of the tanks, and it was tasting sawwweeettt!

Thanks for listening

A dull Sunday afternoon brought us on a mini adventure, we had arranged to visit Wicklow Brewery with their Head Brewer Jason Carroll in early September before the Irish Craft Beer Festival. It tied in nicely with the fact that my parents were staying in the attached River Valley Park in Redcross, Co Wicklow.

Sadly we were unable to stay due to work commitments, but we said we'd go down anyway. We threw the usual script out and Jason joined us as a guest to chat through his journey from home brewer to being head brewer at the award winning Wicklow Brewery

The brewery is situated in Mickey Finns pub, but once you get to the Beer Hall you can see that this is a really nice tap room, using reclaimed timber in vast quantities, you can only be impressed with the space, and the fact that you can see the brewery right there in front of you reassures you to the freshness of the beers on tap in the bar.

The food in the pub is also top notch, and very reasonably priced. A wide range of starters and Main courses. Of course the Beeramisu was in the dessert menu!

We'd highly recommend visiting this brewery, and doing the tour, the staff and team are very friendly. They are rightly proud and passionate of the beers being produced on site and are a huge asset to the brewery, and bar. Tours can be arranged, just contact the brewery directly here

The information on the Bru Brewery event is here

Aug 25, 2016

In a special bonus podcast episode, while on a sneaky visit to Wexford, the Irish Beer Snob duo, met up with Enya & Danny of The Bottle Podcast to have a chinwag and basically beery banter.

Throw in Yellowbelly's Head Brewer Declan into the mix and it was an absolute hoot. While shooting the breeze, the table shared Cloudwater DIPA V6 & V7 thanks to Declan.

Have a listen, and let us know what you think.

Aug 21, 2016

This weeks episode, is all about Goin' out West.

Galway, is a city on the west coast of Ireland, that is world famous for a few things, it's Oyster Festival, it's Arts Festival, and of course the week of the Galway Races each July. Horses, Craic, and Gambling.

It's home also to the Galway Bay Brewery, who recently, like many Irish sports teams, athletes, and food producers, have been punching above their weight on an international stage over the years. So much so they took home Bronze for their Sweet Milk Stout, Buried at Sea at the recent World Beer Cup. Those who fancied a flutter before hand could have even got the inside line if they found this article in time!

It seems that every year when the Galway Bay Brewery bus tour was on, Janice & I would always be away. So it was just our luck this year when we were able to go on this years trip.

So in this podcast, we're going to taste this award winning beer, and chat about the latest news in the Irish Beer Scene, and our most recent #Hopical topic.

The link to the World Beer Awards winners is here
